As part of a new, more regional approach to job creation in Greater Cleveland, the economic development agency NorTech will merge with Team Northeast Ohio under new leadership.

Thomas Waltermire, the chief executive of Team NEO, announced Monday he is stepping down Dec. 31 after “eight great years” as chief executive of the region’s lead job attraction agency.

His successor, who has not been named, will run a fortified team in the new year. Team NEO is to become a larger job attraction agency tasked with leading a “Go- big” strategy of targeting new employers and growing promising industries.

Waltermire’s retirement, and the end of NorTech, came amid a flurry of activity in the region’s economic development community.

Plans that had been in the works for months climaxed Monday night, when the board of NorTech agreed to dissolve the tech-focused agency and fold it into Team NEO.
