Area Woman is Akron’s First Entrepreneurship Fellow; Will Embed in the Area’s Startup Community

Heather Roszczyk has never started her own company. But she figures she’s got the risk-taking spirit of an entrepreneur.


After all, she moved from Ohio to Portland, Ore., after college with no job and worked her way up from a secretarial position to head of major footwear line at Nike.


That fearlessness will serve her well, she said, in her new role as Akron’s first entrepreneurship fellow, seeking to beef up the city’s entrepreneurial community.


She’ll serve as a fellow — part cheerleader/promoter and part advocate for local entrepreneurism — over the next two years.


“I have never felt more energized and excited about Akron” and its entrepreneurial opportunities, Roszczyk said, mentioning new tech and non-tech ventures, as well as such groups as the Launch League, an Akron nonprofit seeking to help startups grow.
