Crain’s Cleveland Look Back: Boosting Regional Economy Takes Ongoing Effort

Nearly two years ago, Jon Pinney, managing partner of the Kohrman Jackson & Krantz law firm, told a City Club of Cleveland audience that the region’s efforts to boost the economy weren’t working.

“We’re getting our butts kicked. We’re dead last or near the bottom in most economic metrics,” he said. “Our population continues to decline at an alarming rate, (and) our economy has not evolved into an innovation economy quickly enough.”

Perhaps unknowingly, Pinney was expressing a frustration felt by several generations of civic leaders who have worked to rebuild a sagging regional economy.
