CLEVELAND–April 5, 2010–Members of the Fund for Our Economic Future have elected Deborah D. Hoover, president of The Burton D. Morgan Foundation, to serve as a vice chair.
The Fund, a collaboration of more than 100 foundations, organizations and philanthropists from across Northeast Ohio that strengthens the region’s economic competitiveness, adds Hoover to its leadership at the advent of its third, three-year phase, which began in March.
“As we embark on phase three, the Fund has many challenges and opportunities to confront, and we move forward with fresh determination. I am energized to begin work in my new role,” said Hoover. “Participation in the Fund throughout the last six years has enriched the work of The Burton D. Morgan Foundation by providing a regional context to our grants in the entrepreneurship field, and the foundation will continue to share its resources and expertise to help inform critical Fund decisions.”
Hoover joins Brian Frederick, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Lorain County, and Christine Mayer, chief operating officer of the GAR Foundation, as vice chairs of the Fund. She will continue to serve as a member of the Fund’s Steering Committee and co-chair of its Entrepreneurship and Innovation Action Team.
Since January 2007, Hoover has served as president of The Burton D. Morgan Foundation, whose mission is to strengthen the free enterprise system by investing in organizations and institutions that foster the entrepreneurial spirit. She joined the foundation, which is based in Hudson, Ohio, in 1999 as a program officer and was elected executive vice president and treasurer in 2004. She was instrumental in establishing the foundation’s Northeast Ohio Collegiate Entrepreneurship Program, a Kauffman CampusesSM Initiative, to spread entrepreneurship across liberal arts campuses. She is a member of Youth Entrepreneurship Alliance, a national strategy group working to promote entrepreneurship education. She is also chair of the Advisory Board for The Foundation Center-Cleveland and serves on the Northeast Ohio Program Committee and Family and Private Foundations Committee for Ohio Grantmakers Forum. She is a member of the National Council for The Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Mass.
